There are also plenty of trailheads nearby for scenic hikes in and out of the Deschutes National Forest, or you can visit the extinct Pilot Butte volcano, a viewpoint offering panoramic views of the area. The Lava River Cave and Newberry National Volcanic Monument allow you to get close to active volcanic areas, a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
